Welcome to the newest exciting member of the Mazda family
- the sporty and stylish Astina SP20. Continuing Mazda's
worldwide tradition of building cars with spirited handling, 'look
at me' designs and exceptional functionality, the SP20 also packs
more punch into this package with its 2.0 litre DOHC engine.

A New Look - On the Outside With the SP20's
exterior design, Mazda sought to reinforce the 323 brand
personality in accordance with the Contrast in Harmony design
theme. The result is a sporty, youthful and distinctive
appearance that comprehensively reflects the 5 door concept of
dynamic and sporty. The SP20 has some extra design
features that create a more aggressive, dynamic personality:
These include: *Aggressive 'rally type' front bumper
styling; *A sports style black grille with a bold centre
symbol; *Two-bulb headlamps integrated with hazard warning
lamps and turn signal lamps; *Large integrated round front
fog lamps; *Side spoilers; *Rear underspoiler; *16
inch alloy wheels; *A rear centre roof mounted aerial.

New and Improved While Mazda's 'regular' 323
models continue to offer the choice of responsive and
economical 1.6 and 1.8 litre engines, the SP20 offers the FSD
2.0 litre engine which incorporates numerous features that
improve running performance, fuel efficiency and
quietness. Compared with the 1.8 litre engine, the FSD
engine offers higher torque at all speeds and achieves
performance levels that guarantee a sporty drive. Maximum
power is 98 kW at 6000 rpm with torque of 174 Nm at 4500 rpm,
and this engine uses premium unleaded petrol. Performance is a
quick 0 to 100 kph in 9.7 seconds. In addition to a
Variable Inertial Charging System (VICS) equipped manifold and
a knock sensor, the 2.0 litre employs a low back pressure main
silencer to help achieve the higher output.

New Look - On the Inside Mazda's new 2.0L Astina
SP20 Hatch is good news for those wanting a high performance
sports car. Design features for the new SP20 create a
sporty cockpit environment that makes driving more enjoyable
with key features including: An off black color scheme; White
instrument meters; Amber red illumination of meters, audio
controls, and air-conditioner panel; Black, leather wrapped,
three spoke Nardi steering wheel; Leather wrapped gear knob;
Aggressively styled fabrics; Silver finish to the centre
panel, floor console boot panel, cupholder lid, power window
switch bezels and door inner handles; Scuff plates with
metallic inserts

At The Controls Inside, the SP20 is a joy for
the sportier minded motorist. The driver faces white, amber
lit instrument dials in the main binnacle behind the duo tone
steering wheel.
Sports trimmed seats feature a leather
highlight and on the manual models there's a leather gear
shift knob. A smart metallic finish surrounds the audio
system and climate controls in the centre of the dashboard,
and has also been applied to the power window switch panel in
the front doors, as well as the inner door handles.
Automatic air conditioning and a six-stack CD player
complete the features for this special model.

More Pleasure To Drive Enhancements to the 323's
traditional ride comfort, handling stability, responsive steering
and NVH reduction, make the SP20 an even greater pleasure to drive.
Improvements have come from strengthening the vehicle's body
structure including the front and rear suspension towers, tower
gussets and cross members, rear bulkhead members, and cross junction
member. Further improvements include strengthening the
stabiliser bars by increasing the diameter to 22mm and the rear
stabiliser bar by increasing the diameter to 17mm. The steering
system has also been uprated with more precise, linear, natural
feeling response to steering inputs.
Mazda has built in
class leading braking performance with predictable response to brake
pedal depression using higher friction, fade resistant brake pads
and increased vacuum booster capacity. MAIDAS - Triple H For
maximum occupant protection the new SP20's body has been designed in
accordance with Mazda's unique Advanced Impact-energy Distribution
and Absorption System (MAIDAS). The front and rear frames form
crushable zones that absorb impact energy. An integral part of
the MAIDAS body is the unique "Triple H" central body cage, which is
effective in withstanding side impact and ensures minimum
deformation of the passenger compartment.
